Egypt wins chairmanship of UN Committee on Social Policy and Poverty on Africa

Dr. Saber Suleiman, Assistant Minister of State for Migration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, participated in the meeting of the Third Committee for Social Policies, Poverty and Gender, which was held at the United Nations Headquarters in Addis Ababa since yesterday and today, under the slogan "Launching African Progress Towards Eradicating Poverty and Reducing Inequality of Opportunities".
Egypt won the chairmanship of the UN Committee on Social Policy and Poverty on the continent for two years, 2020-2021, for the third consecutive time since the establishment of the commission in 1979, after the elections of more than 50 African countries, including the five African regions: "North Africa, East Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, South Africa ”for the composition of the Bureau, including the selection of five Chairpersons and Rapporteurs representing the five African regions.
For his part, Dr. Saber Suleiman said that Egypt's victory under the chairmanship of the committee enhances the Egyptian leadership role in the African continent, under the chairmanship of Egypt to the African Union in its current session, as well as ways of supporting the African continent in the field of promoting safe migration, empowering women, providing social care in all its forms and equal opportunities in the fields of Education, health and others, in the context of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Africa Agenda 2063.
It is scheduled to complete the work of the Committee within the framework of Egypt's presidency of the Social Policy Committee to develop future plans for the work of the Committee during the years 2020-2021.
In the same context, Dr. Saber Suleiman participated in the meeting of the Committee of Experts from African countries; to discuss reports prepared by the Policy Committee on the promotion of social protection and investment in social services in African countries, on 12 and 13 November 2019.
This comes within the framework of the Ministry of State for Migration and Egyptians Abroad to participate in the meetings of the Economic Commission for Africa at the United Nations, which is related to the Committee on Social Policies, Poverty and Gender, which is one of the most important axes in addition to the eradication of poverty as well as reducing inequality of opportunities in the African continent
